Amplify Asian America is growing and excited to welcome some new team members to the family! We’re looking for volunteers in the following committees: Communications, Community Education, Field, and Research.

ADMIN DIRECTOR

Location

Summary

The Admin Director is responsible for the key operations of Amplify Asian America (A3), especially our ability to host events, both in-person and virtual. This director will work with the Executive Director and Associate Director to coordinate across teams, manage meetings, events, and major projects. In addition, they will manage major events and campaigns, including those related to Asian American civic participation and getting out the vote. The admin director will also manage internal technical databases and technical platforms, including Discord and Google Workspace.

This is a volunteer position, with an estimated commitment of 5-10 hours a week. This year, our volunteer term is from March 2022 to January 2023. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administrative

    • Manage Amplify Asian America internal databases i.e. sponsorship, partnership

    • Manage the use and onboarding of technical platforms, including streaming platforms, email marketing platforms, website platforms, and Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)

    • Respond to and troubleshoot website or any technical issues

  • Event Logistics

    • Assist other teams with organizing and executing committee-led events

    • Plan programs and campaigns’ logistics from start to finish, including delegating roles, allocating budget, establishing processes and milestones, and communicating with other teams

  • Executive responsibilities

    • Work with the Executive Director and Associate Director to facilitate internal meetings, support in planning community programs, assist in project management, foster community-building, oversee partnerships, and ensure initiatives align with long-term goals.

COMMUNICATIONS TEAM

Summary

Communications, whether to our audiences or to the general public, are a crucial tool in advancing our mission. The Communications team will be responsible for social media, graphics, writing, publicity, and other efforts within Amplify Asian America.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Graphic Design Responsibilities

    • Design enticing graphics for social media and other digital or print projects

  • Writing Responsibilities

    • Write and edit social media, website, and other copy to ensure clarity and appropriate voice

    • Write and edit press releases 

    • Develop and coach staff on talking points and messaging for media communications

  • Other Responsibilities

    • Curate and publish social media content 

    • Promptly respond to queries and requests through social media 

    • Design and implement social media campaigns and promotion for events

    • Edit webinar and other audiovisual event transcripts for clarity

    • Manage and implement email campaigns (e.g., newsletters or election reminders)

    • Manage and monitor the Amplify Asian America website in close collaboration with the administrative team

  • Committee Lead

    • Lead the communications team and report on work in general meetings 

    • Establish Amplify Asian America’s creative direction, including developing and implementing a visual branding identity

    • Develop and implement general social media strategy

Competencies and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva and/or other graphic design software

  • Excellent eye for design and familiarity with typography, color, and other graphic principles

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

  • Experience managing media relations

  • Knowledge of best practices for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media 

  • Experience communicating with Asian American communities

  • Experience with social media management tools

  • Strong organizational management of listservs, databases, etc

COMMUNITY EDUCATION TEAM

Summary

Our community education team is responsible for leading and developing resources and programs for our community and team members, primarily in advocacy and Asian American history. They will host internal and external programming opportunities that focus on advocacy, art, media and history in collaboration with our other teams. Prior similar events include Splice and Slice, an Asian American zine making workshop with Buah Zine and Cut Fruit Collective.

    • Devise programs, initiatives, and other ways to meaningfully engage with other staff and external audiences.

FIELD TEAM

Summary

A key part of our organization is about outreaching to different parts of the Asian American community. The field team is responsible for managing volunteers and conducting our community outreach to young Asian Americans, particularly on college campuses and other community spaces, and leading our civic engagement events.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • General Responsibilities

    • Manage Amplify Asian America’s team of non-staff volunteers 

    • Manage Get Out the Vote (GOTV) events; including annual GOTV national event, coordinating with local volunteers for state and local GOTV events, etc

    • Direct our campus and community center outreach efforts and partner with student organizations

    • Represent Amplify Asian America at civic engagement conferences 

    • Develop voting information and civic engagement training materials for presentations, conferences, etc. 

    • Attend coalition meetings with other voting-centered and Asian American organizations 

  • Committee Lead 

    • Lead the field team and report on work in general meetings

RESEARCH TEAM

Summary

This team is focused on our policy and research work, which is currently focused on demographic trends, voting rights and disinformation in the Asian American community. As part of this team, you will be responsible for conducting long-term research in partnership with other community organizations, developing content for infographics, and interviewing and writing on impacted community members.

This is a volunteer position, with an estimated commitment of 5 hours a week. This year, our volunteer term is from March 2022 to January 2023. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • General

    • Conduct research on topics relevant to the Asian American youth community (for example, voting rights, disinformation, and demographic trends) 

    • Write blog posts highlighting relevant issues and impacted community members, including both quantitative and qualitative analyses

    • Monitor current events to identify potential issues or topics relevant to Amplify Asian America operations

    • Represent Amplify Asian American on coalition calls related to research and data

    • Work in collaboration with other teams to implement projects (e.g., createinfographics on key topics in collaboration with the Communications team, share relevant findings as needed to support voter registration and education initiatives led by the Field and Community Education teams, etc.)

  • Committee Lead 

    • Lead the research team’s work priorities and report on work in general meetings

  • Experience with analyzing and interpreting data or qualitative research skills (or interest in developing these skills)

  • Interest in interviewing and research writing
