AAPI Activation 2020
Join special guests to discuss how we can activate the fastest growing voting group -- Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders -- in one of the most important elections of our lifetimes.
This conversation, moderated by Varun Nikore, Executive Director of AAPI Progressive Action, will focus on the important role the AAPIs play in the upcoming election, especially in battleground states. As the fastest growing racial group in the US, we have the potential to be the margin of victory, not only in the presidential race, but at the state and local levels as well.
We'll discuss Kamala Harris and her new role as the first ever Black and South Asian woman to be selected for the Vice President role on a major party ticket. While this is a big win for AAPI representation, we as a community cannot let up on the gas, and it's up to us to mobilize our communities so we can actually make a difference in the outcome of this election.
Hosted by The 2020 Project, AAPI Progressive Action and the AAPI Victory Fund.
Voting in the Time of COVID-19
It is already an uphill battle to vote for many in America with restrictive ID laws, few polling locations, and little to no paid time off for the working class to name a few reasons. We are now in the era of COVID and adjusting to living in a pandemic. What does COVID mean for the 2020 Elections state and nationwide? And what can we do to prepare ourselves and get out the vote? Learn more about the answers to these questions with fellow API figures!
Moderator: Christine Chen (APIAVote Director)
Panelists: Nina Ahmed (PA Auditor General Candidate), Tina Maharath (OH State Senator), Jay Xiong (MN State Rep)

Fresh Off the Vote: Virtual Music Festival
The 2020 Project and BTO Collective are proud to present to you, FRESH OFF THE VOTE, a virtual music festival experience recognizing Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in music to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM). The goal of FRESH OFF THE VOTE is to advocate for Asian American representation beyond the scope of music and media, as well as promote voter registration among AAPI youth. Asian Americans are the fastest growing minority group in the United States, with a 72% increase over the past 15 years, yet have the lowest voter turnout—especially among those aged 18-34. We hope you can join us as we celebrate APAHM while registering Asian Americans to vote!
Voter Newbie: The How To's for First Time Registrants
Voting can be intimidating, especially if it’s your first time. There’s so much weight and responsibility that goes into filling one little bubble. Your vote plays a part in deciding the fate of your town, your state, and your country. But we’re here to break it down for you. Join BLD PWR’s Lacy Lew Nguyen Wright in her one-on-one conversation with first-time voter and The OA star Ian Alexander in this conversation. From the 101 basics on how to register to vote to navigating the world of misinformation, this discussion will help you fill out your ballot more confidently!
Lets Get Local! Voting at a Local Level & Building Up
“Does your vote matter?” is the million dollar question—we’re here to slay that myth and dive into how your vote especially matters in local government. What happens on a national and global scale is important, but local government impacts your daily life. Alongside Keith Chow (The Nerds of Color), actors Osric Chau (Supernatural, Arrowverse), Michele Selene Ang (13 Reasons Why) and Former Iowa Political Operative Romen Borsellino, we will delve beyond the importance of voting—how Asian American and Pacific Islander #RepresentationMatters at the polls and how we can fully realize the impact of our community’s vote.
